Birthday Deals! Listed!

Me...a shopaholic and I always try my best to hunt for good deals before I head to the mall. XD

Since my birthday falls on February, I will try my best use the discounts and privileges available from the card I have, or just to collect extra points which benefits me later.

Can't help it. I need to write about the deals instead of travel and food this time. ^^

  • Parkson
I shop in Parkson and use my Bonuslink card often. So, I receive a birthday special from them every year. ^^

Seoul Garden @ Sunrise Tower, Persiaran Gurney

Seoul Garden of Sunrise Tower has been around for years and I used to stare at the restaurant when I passed by the place and wander what they serve.

One weekend a few weeks ago, my bro suggested that we go for Seoul Garden since the food is not bad. He had been there with his friends previously. It turned out that we had a great meal there. ^^

The dining area.
Pretty simple without elaborated decoration.
We sat at the table near the window.
You can see the view outside while dining.

Aza Aza Starvil Korean Cuisine and BBQ Restaurant @ Queensbay, Penang

I enjoy dining out with my buddies as we get to share different food and stories when we have the chance to hang out in a big group. So, for Christmas, we went to Queensbay Mall in Penang for a movie and lunch.

We went to Aza Aza Starvil this time since all of us wanted to try their Korean food after failing to decide what to have in the huge mall. We have been eating the same thing again and again whenever we go out. Sushi is really out of the list.

It is easy to find the restaurant as it is opposite Queensbay Mall. To be precise, you can see the restaurant opposite TGI Friday's.

The Library Coffee Bar @ Bukit Mertajam, Penang

Please take note that this cafe is no longer in business

Happy New Year 2015, everyone!

It has been a busy year for me and I am glad that I managed to write something before the end of the month. To celebrate the brand new year, I went for tea with my 'food' buddy.

Lot's of eateries and cafes have been mushrooming around Penang and people are basically being spoilt for choices. ^^ We went to The Library Coffee Bar which is a stone's throw from my place. I've been there once a few weeks after the opening. However, due to my busy schedule (yup, I know...not again), I have yet shared anything.

The Library Coffee Bar is a double-story cafe and you have to place your order upon entering before finding a place to sit and enjoy your day. Seats are limited when it is packed and the dining area at the upper floor can be hot due to the evening sun's ray. Perhaps they should install blinds to make the place cooler.

The dining area on the first floor.
It would be better to go there at night.
Well, it was a November evening. ^^

Purrfect Cat Cafe @ George Town,Penang

Writing is an indulgence to me lately since I have embarked a new journey to further my studies.
Tons to write, but life is hectic so, I need to prioritise my work and thus, write when I have the free time. So, here I go with a quick entry before the end of 2014.

There are many interesting places to hang out around Penang and my buddy and I decided to check out the cat cafe which we have been planning to go for quite some time. Well, I am not really a fan of the feline, but, I do enjoy seeing cute things, especially the display within the cafe.

Upon entering the dining area upstairs, you will a blackboard
display with the cats' names. Meow~

Anak Kulim Cafe @ Kulim, Kedah Darul Aman

It has been a long time since I last write an entry as I have been pretty busy due to studying.

I love trying out different food, especially finding unique latte art and I am thankful that a colleague of mine (who happens to be my primary school sensei) took me to Anak Kulim for a farewell lunch in August, before I started my college in September.

It was just opened for a couple of months and it is good to see a cafe in the small Kulim Town.
In stead of going all the place to Penang, this can be a good option.

The cafe is located on the left row of shop houses,
just before the Kulim Post Office.
You can see the sign outside the shop.

Cozy in the Rocket @ George Town, Penang

I went to another café in the heart of George Town with my buddies a few weeks back and we dined at a café known as ‘Cozy In The Rocket’, which was known as Amelie Café before they relocate to a new place.  ‘Cozy In The Rocket’ does ring a bell to me as it is the theme song of Grey’s Anatomy.

It is just a stone’s throw from their previous place and it is easy to find since the new café is located right behind the well-known ‘Little Children on Bicycle’ mural by Ernest Zacharevic. Thus, the place will be packed with visitors during weekends or public holidays. Wow! O.O

The café is cosy and the ambiance is relaxing. I would like to say that they go for the vintage theme, which is pretty cool and nostalgic.

The entrance of the cafe!
It looks welcoming and promising of
a cool hideout under the scorching sun. ^^

The Bizarre Dotonbori (Namba) @ Osaka, Japan

Dotonbori is a happening place full of visitors, good food and interesting building (or billboard).

The decorations of the buildings are over-the-top and they will definitely blow you away!

During my trip, I managed to capture a few buildings and I am glad that I went there, albeit the hot weather. (^o^)

The huge Dragon of Kinryu Ramen.

I heard that the ramen is good.
Too bad we had Korean Food earlier. sigh~
Well, we missed the spicy Malaysian food
after 6 days in Japan and thus, we needed
some heavy flavoured food, now!

Tokyo Disneyland, Summer 2013 @ Tokyo, Japan

A trip to Japan would be incomplete if you did not go to Disneyland.
It has been a dream come true as I want to go to Disneyland badly since I was a child.
I would have to thank my lovely buddy who is studying in Japan. She bought the tickets for us from Lawson and helped us planned the trip. Luv her! XD

My friend suggested that we should be there early before the theme park opened ( at 8 am or 8:30 am on that day, I can't recall) since it would be extremely crowded. It was the Obon holiday when we went to Japan. Thus, I have experienced an extremely crowded place during my trip.

Ippudo (一風堂) @ Ikeda, Osaka

Cold noodles, takoyaki, unagi rice, okonomiyaki.
Now, it is time to taste some delicious ramen in Japan!

After visiting the ramen museum, we went to Ippudo which is located near the Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum in Ikeda (池田).
My friend who is studying in Osaka suggested that we should try the ramen as it is delicious and affordable. Since we had been eating tons of cold noodles throughout our summer getaway, something warm and filling would be a delight.

We went there during lunch time and we were lucky to get a seat after waiting for less than 10 minutes.

I was amazed and excited since the dining area resembles
the ramen restaurant I saw in animes and mangas.
( Yup, the elements found in animes and
mangas are based on what we can see in real life)

Okaru (おかる) @ Nara, Japan

It is a must for us to indulge in authentic Okonomiyaki during our trip to Kansai and we managed to try some while visiting Nara.

It was lunch time when we arrived Nara and had to find something yummy and unique to fill our grumbling stomach before exploring the place. While walking along the Higashimuki Shopping Street Arcade, we stumbled upon Okaru and from the menu and food samples displayed outside, we were delighted to know that they do serve okonomiyaki!

Kaffa Cafe @ China Street, Penang

Hanging out at the café around George Town is a fast growing trend in Penang as new cafes are mushrooming around the heritage zone.

People would like to frequent the cafés not only for their good food, but for their unique dining environment which have different themes and decorations.

Well, I went to Kaffa Café earlier this year for lunch with my friends as we have yet tried the food there. (Sigh…it took me moths just to update since I’ve been extremely busy)

Kaffa Mocha (Regular)@ RM 8.00

I am always excited whenever I order my coffee at a café
as I am a huge fan of latte art.

The flowery latte art is beautiful
and the coffee tastes fine.

Art Is Rubbish Is Art @ Art Exhibition by Ernest Zacharevic

Last week, I went to an art exhibition of a Lithuanian artist, Ernest Zacharevic (who is famous here due to his murals), in Penang and I am amazed by the brilliant idea of transforming an old deserted Hin Company’s bus depot into an art gallery. It is a genius idea to make use of abandoned buildings.

Basically, you can see his paintings and murals there.

I am impressed by the ‘upcycle’ of unwanted materials for the exhibition as he managed to utilised unwanted things for art. For examples, rubbish bags, unwanted old cupboard, toy guns and materials can be used to transformed into impressive work. Really, they are unique, yet beautiful.

TGI Fridays (Christmas Menu) @ Queensbay Mall, Penang

A brand new year, with a brand new entry! (Sorry, I am a lil late again)
This is a must to mark the arrival of 2014.

Anyway, before the end of 2013, I went for a Christmas Brunch at Queensbay Mall’s TGI Friday's.
I haven’t dine there for quite some time and trying out the Christmas Menu might help me discover something good.

日野家 ( Hinoya Japanese Restaurant) @ Fushimi Inari, Kyoto, Japan

Visiting the famous Fushimi Inari Shrine, or better known as Fushimi Inari Taisha (伏見稲荷大社)  is a must when you visit Kyoto. Based on what I’ve read online, I’ve got to know that the shrine was dedicated to the God of Rice and Sake by the Hata Clan in the late 8th century.

The main attraction of the place is the vibrant coloured orange redish tori gates. Trust me, the view is to die for. One word to describe it: EPIC!

Around the shrines and the shopping street, you will see souvenirs, statues and talisman or lucky charms, which comes in the form of foxes.Foxes do play a pivotal role in olden Japan as they are messenger to the God of Grain ( as in rice, which is the staple food in Asia), Inari Okami.

The main shrine.
It is spectacular under the sun.

Xuan Xin Ramen @ Gurney Plaza, Penang

Xuan Xin Ramen has been around Gurney Plaza for quite some time and I’ve yet tried it even though I’ve been hanging out there for almost every month.

Went there for dinner after shopping and since it was early, the restaurant was not crowded.
It is always full during lunch and dinner time and the seating is pretty much limited.

Anyway, they serve ramen (noodles) as well as some Chinese dishes, appetisers, desserts and rice.

it has relocated to No. 164, Lebuh Pantai, George Town

Last month, I went there with my buddies for tapas and we were amazed by their 3D latte art.

Straw Hat (Mugiwara Boushi) @ Ghibli Museum, Mitaka

Visiting the Ghibli Museum (which is also known as Forest of Mitaka Ghibli Art Museum,  三鷹の森ジブリ美術館)was one of my main purpose during my trip to Japan and I was disappointed when my friend told me that the tickets were sold out during the date we were supposed to be in Tokyo (according to the ticket selling machine). T.T

Miracles do happen in life and just as magical as Hayao Miyazaki’s animation as my friend’s friend managed to help us get the tickets from Lawson! Sugoi!

Here's the link of Lawson : Ghibli Museum's Ticket

We took the subway train to Mitaka station and decided to take our leisure time walking to the museum.

It was a cloudy afternoon and thus, we were not grilled by the scorching hot sun.
You will walk pass a park and a tennis court before you reach the entrance of the museum.

No worries, there are signs to guide you along the way and that is why I lovvvveeee japan so much. Clear road signs…unlike those we have here which misguide you most of the time

Joraku (Family Restaurant) @ Asakusa, Tokyo

The best thing about Japanese restaurant is you get to see most of the food replicas outside the shop.
They look real, with the colours and texture which can make your stomach rumbles at no time.
After wondering aimlessly around Asakusa, we stumbled upon this family restaurant and decided to have our dinner there.

It was almost 8:00 pm and we had to be fast as they were going to take their last order pretty soon.

Food replicas...tempting..tempting
