Everyday is Mayday!

Today is Monday.

It is a Mayday as well because the sky is blue, the sun is hot, the clouds are fluffy, the breeze is cool and the best of all…I managed to get the Mayday album that I’ve ordered earlier at Hong Kong studio at last! So excited!

I pre ordered this album as this version: The “No Where” version (末日版) of Mayday’s latest album won’t be available in Malaysia. Without hesitation, I paid RM99.00 (no matter how stingy I am) just to get the album that I want so much! I didn't order the other version with Mayday's random figure or another one with a set of 5 figures (heard it costs around RM300 plus? not really sure). I'm stingy as usual. =.=

This album consists of mostly ballads and soft rock (can I call it that) as compared to their previous album.
Creative lyrics as always which moves my heart and it doesn’t fail to keep me move on with life.
That’s the beauty of Ashin’s lyrics.
There is a song with light catchy tempo as well, like “washing machine” which is adorable.
Ok…I shall stop here and start enjoying my album.

Still keeping my fingers crossed to get another version of this album.

My "No Where" Mayday's eighth album!
The title is "Second Round" btw.

Garrett Popcorn @ Singapore

The sweet aroma of caramel linger in the air of a gloomy December afternoon, which caused my stomach to grumble when I walked pass Liat Towers of Orchard Road the other day.

The smell was too good to resist and thus, I decided to get one pack of popcorn to pamper my taste buds. I did not want to feel sorry to miss this chance.

I haven't seen any outlets of Garrett Popcorn in Malaysia and I get too know from their website that there are 2 branches opened in Kuala Lumpur. (KL again? Why not Penang instead?)

The taste was not disappointed after all and I like it, as it is way WAY much better then the popcorn I bought at GSC Cinema, even though it is rather pricey.

Xuan Xin Steamboat @ Gurney (Part II)

Please take note that this outlet is no longer available at Gurney Plaza

Went to Xuan Xin Steamboat again for lunch during a shopping trip the other day as I was too craving for the snow ice (or is it ice floss) dessert again during last December. (Well...not too long ago as it was 24th of December to be precise. XD)

Xuan Xin Steamboat @ Gurney used to be a self-service eatery where you take your own steamboat ingredients and pay later according to the number of sticks you have eaten. (Just as I've blogged before. Here's the link : Xuan Xin Steamboat @ Gurney Plaza )

Now, they come up with set meals, plus some modification on the menu for noodles and side dishes.

Anyway, I ordered the 2 pax value set plus some ala carte steamboat ingredients which are seafood bean curd, vegetable fish ball and fish ball (西刀鱼丸) which cost RM3.50 each.

We opt for 2 different soup base: Tom Yam and broth (清汤)
I like the sourish taste of the Tom Yam soup. ^^

Wonderland in the Tropics @ Changi Airport, Singapore

What I like about Changi Airport when I first landed in Singapore was not because of the it being one of the best airport around, it was because of all the things I can snap photos and go insane when I was there. XD
It was Christmas after all! With all the lights, with all the decors, plus all the fun!

Besides the luxurious shops selling branded item which I was too stingy to own for now, I really like the Christmas atmosphere there. Plus the cute stuff I can see around me. Interesting and fun. Feeling just like Alice when she set foot on the colourful wonderland. ^^

The candy Ferris wheel at The Cocoa Trees.
Beautiful! Bought some chocolates from that shop.

Eden @ Hutton Lane, Penang

Eden has ended their business.
Gonna miss this nostalgic restaurant.

Eden at Hutton Lane is one of the old restaurant that has been around Penang since 1964. It was known as Adam's Terrace and Eve's Gardenia last time. As far as I know, Eden is famous for its western fare, such as steak, lobster and oxtail soup. But, I only tried their set lunch and dinner through out my visit to Eden.

I have been there for lunch and dinner with my mom and aunt for a dozen of time till I managed to snap some photos of this place.

I went there for dinner during Christmas and we ordered 2 different types of set dinners which came with an appetiser, main course, dessert and tea/coffee. The Christmas Turkey set was RM 58.00, while the other set (Fisherman's Seafood Platter) was RM38.00.

The Eden Caesar salad for appetiser.
Fresh lettuce, chunks of cheese and croutons.
Decent enough for me.

Christmas in the Tropics @ Singapore

December is the season to take a long break and I would to go for a vacation during my break away from the wild 'zoo'. XD

I went to Singapore and well...window shopping mostly. Too bad the weather was bad. It was raining cats and dogs during my stay. What a waste. Anyway, I had a great time and I would plan another trip soon.

Found the Tintin Shop at Chinatown.
Tintin fans should be happy with all the merchandise found.

Snapping Christmas trees are a must for my trip.
Due to the rainy season, well, I would have to miss out the trees outside Orchard Road.

The huge tree inside Takashimaya ( Ngee Ann City I guess)

Electronic Christmas tree with tv screens by Heineken at Clarke Quay

Feel the Christmas of Orchard Road.
My trip was ruined by the gloomy sky. =.=

I saw something on 'Elephant on Parade' when I was there.
Based on what I read on line, it is the world's largest open air art exhibition of decorated elephant statues to bring awareness among the society regarding the elephant conservation in Asia.
Cool!

Angry Bird Elephant?

Artistic display of elephants along Orchard Road.
Made me wanna paint one.

A sad looking elephant.
Did the bad weather upset you?
 -huggles-

The biggest mission accomplished was that I found the Mayday's edition of Impact mint.
Am soooooo excited. Bought 2.
I should bought all the design. -regretting now-

The DNA concert version

Ashin's version, with peach flavour. <3

Well, I shall visit Singapore again. My next plan: Universal studio, food, photos and....Mayday! XD

Rou Gu Cha King @ Gurney Plaza Penang

This restaurant is no longer available in Gurney Plaza.

Apart from having western food in Gurney Plaza, there are a few affordable eateries that you can have your meals during your shopping trip (I'm not referring to McD...lol). One of themu  is this shop, Rou Gu Cha King located at the 4th floor of Gurney Plaza. XD

As the name suggested, this eatery serves rou gu cha (bak kut teh or 肉骨茶). The dry bak kut teh is my fav and it tastes good. It smells great with the dried chili used while preparing the dish. XD

I went to this shop 2 weeks ago and ordered 2 set meals: the original rou gu cha and the dry one.

Rou Gu Cha ( 肉骨茶 ) set @ RM13.90

Yoshinoya @ Ngee Ann City, Singapore

After my lunch, I was still hungry after roaming around Orchard Road for 3 hours. With the gloomy weather outside, I could not go out to snap photos without risking my camera, as well as getting drenched in the rain.

Decided to have a bite when I arrived at Ngee Ann City and I ended up in Yoshinoya, a Japanese fast food chain. Ahh...well, it is the largest chain of beef bowl in Japan if not mistaken (read this online).

Ordered a value meal combo to fill my grumbling stomach. It comes with a rice combo and a bowl of miso soup.

Teriyaki chicken and ebi fry combo (with vegetables and miso soup) @ $9.60

Crispy and delicious ebi. The prawn is fresh. I like this one.
The teriyaki chicken is ok. I like the taste of the sauce with short grain rice though.

Pasta de Waraku @ The Central (Clarke Quay), Singapore

During my trip to Singapore recenlty, I went to Clarke Quay for a stroll along the river bank as well as to experience the night life there and to have my dinner.

I went to Clarke Quay for Mayday's autograph session years ago when I was in universities and I really like the restaurants there which displays the sample of food served outside the shop. I made a vow that I shall try out one of the restaurant once I start working. Haha (was a poor student last time).

And...Tada! Here I am at Pasta de Waraku!

The sample of food displayed outside (inside as well) the shop.
They look real.

Mei Heong Yuen Dessert @ Chinatown, Singapore

I must say that I am a big fan of dessert and I will not miss it whenever I see a tempting one in a menu. XD

Anyway, read about this place in a few Singapore food blog before heading there and it is included in my 'MUST' list. Found this when I walked around Chinatown and went in without a second thought. It was a Saturday afternoon and there were lots of people inside.

Hmmm...it is a great place to have something delicious after a long shopping trip at Chinatown. ^^

Walnut paste (as recommended by the waitress)
This is delicious. Not too sweet and thick. I like the taste of it.
This is good to warm you up during a rainy day.

Dome Cafe @ Gurney Plaza

I've been thinking of going to Dome Cafe for along time whenever I walk pass the cafe. Well, here I am on a wonderful sunny Friday.
After going through the menu, I couldn't decide what to order.  Sandwiches, pasta, breakfast specials.
Anyway, I ended up ordering Dome's Fish and Chips and coffee twister for my brunch. I just couldn't make up my mind.

Fish and Chips @ RM 26.00

Deep fried fish fillet with fresh garden salad.
Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
It went well with the Tartare Sauce.
I even like the taste when I deep it in the salad dressing
(that's vinegar I guess...no idea).
Not bad, big serving and kinda expensive for me
when it comes to fish and chips.

Mayday

First spa experience @ Danai Spa, G Hotel

Migraines....arghh....they are killing me and the main culprit of my problem is due to shoulder pain most of the time.  I just can't stop using my computer, especially when it comes to doing wallpaper designs.

My friend suggested that I should go for a massage and I was still undecided till last week, yup! I decided to make an appointment and try out the spa package offered by Danai Spa of G Hotel.

I went for the Favourite Treats Spa Package which costs me for about RM250 (service tax included...the price of the package is RM240). The package consists of a 90 minutes of Danai Signature Massage, 30 minutes of scrubs and 15 minutes of bath. Too bad the bath was occupied and they replace the bath for an extra 15 minutes of massage for me. What a let down.

Hot ginger tea will be served before the massage.
(they asked me if I would like a hot tea after the spa treatment as well.)
You will be asked to fill in a form of your particulars, health condition and the pressure of your massage, ranging from light medium and hard.

Mah Brunch @ Winter Warmers, Gurney Plaza

Went to Winter Warmers for brunch as I really can't decide what to have at Gurney Plaza. Ordered something different rather then the set meals that I used to have. Anyway, I tried Iced Hawaii Fruit Cocktail and Grilled Dory Fish. Got a discount for the food I ordered since I have a member card. XD

The cupboard in the cafe which is full of beautiful delicate tea sets.
Can't wait to redeem one once I've got enough points.

Chili's Grill and Bar Restaurant @ G Hotel, Gurney, Penang

After a movie on last Thursday night, my bestie and I decided to go to G Hotel’s Chili’s for dinner since we couldn’t decide on what to have for dinner at Gurney Plaza. =.=

I haven’t been to Chili’s for a while and usually, I only fancy trying out different types of cocktails and margaritas. Anyway, I’ve come across some blogs’ entries about the poor qualities of the eatery. However, my last few visits were pleasant, except that the service was slow when you asked for the bill.  Hmm…I do have a few bad experiences at certain eateries. IMHO, it depends on the situation, our luck and also the people who are serving us.

Penang Road Laksa @ Joo Hooi Cafe

When you talk about Penang Hawker food, Penang laksa is a must. Besides Air Itam market's Laksa, we have the famous Penang Road Laksa which has been around for about 50 years if not mistaken. (My mom used to go there for Laksa with my grandma when she was a child...that was like around the 1960's?)

The shop is extremely crowded last Sunday as it was a public holiday. My bestie from Sarawak was craving for it, thus I brought her and her bf there. ^^ You can see the crowd from a far and people queueing at the cendol stall located beside the cafe.

Anyway, Joo Hooi Cafe (愉园餐室)is the name of the coffee shop where Penang Road Laksa can be found. The name Penang Laksa overshadowed the name of the cafe and people knew about the cafe because of the Laksa. lol

Besides Penang laksa, people also go there for its famous cendol. You can also get Char Koay Tiao and Lor Bak at Joo Hooi Cafe.

The crowded cafe. You need to sit down straight away once you spot an empty table.
No time to hesitate.

Che Go, Korean BBQ @ Jusco Bandar Perda

Che Go is available in Jusco Alma, Bukit Mertajam.

This was my third visit to Che Go for lunch and I managed to snap some photos this time XD.

Che Go serves a variety of Korean dishes which suits the locals' taste bud as they are spicy. You can get most well-known Korean delicacies here, including Barbecue Meat, Bibim Bab, Chicken Ginseng Soup, as well Korean pancake. The BBQ set of this eatery is not bad. I like the well marinated chicken and the meat is cooked beautifully, without any being burnt. However, we can't frequent this eatery often as the dish is rather expensive.

Since I can’t eat much, 3 of us decided to order the Family Set A for 2 person (Marinated chicken) which included 6 side dishes of a variety of preserved vegetables (kimchi), as well as a Hot Pot Kimchi Soup, 2 bowls of Korean rice and slices of watermelon for dessert. This set costs RM48.00. The price varies based on the selection of meat chosen.

KL styled Loh Mee @ Lebuh Carnavon, Penang

Lor Mee ( 卤面 ) is a must try hawker food if you were to drop by Penang. However, my bestie brought me to try a special Lor Mee of Hwa Lam Coffee Shop at Lebuh Carnavon, which is at a turning opposite Pragin Mall.

I just got to know that the unique Lor Mee is known as KL Lor Mee after going through some blogs.
Well, the most distinguished flavour of KL Lor Mee is that the taste is rather sourish as the dark broth is cooked by adding black vinegar. Also, for Penang Lor Mee, the starchy broth is pre-cooked and it will be served together with the noodles.

On the other hand, for KL Lor Mee, the egg is cooked together with the other ingredients by stir frying the noodles in a wok together with the broth  (like the preparation of Char Hor Fun).

Also, you won't be seeing traces of minced garlic, slices of hard-boiled egg and bean sprouts in KL Lor Mee. Instead, meat, prawns and fish are added in this version of Lor Mee.

 KL Lor Mee @ RM4.00
A big serving of noodles with generous amount of fish, meat and prawns.

Dragon-I @ Gurney Plaza

Dragon-I is a Chinese restaurant serving the specialties ranging from the regions of  Shanghai, Szechuan, Beijing and Lanzhou.

I used to frequent Dragon-I of Queensbay mall whenever I went shopping once in a blue moon. The Terra-cottar warrior of the ancient Chinese empire at Queensbay's restaurant always remind me of my bestie, who is in fact a Xian's Terra-cotta army fanatic.

However, Gurney Plaza's restaurant is based on the red and black themed traditional interior decoration which is typical of Dragon-I's. IMHO, nothing fancy there, except some potteries and baskets. I didn't pay enough attention when I was there.

Well, normally, I go to Dragon-I just for their Shanghai Xiao Long Bao and also their ice-blended dessert.
The Xiao Long Bao of Dragon-I's is simply the best I can find so far. I tried those from Xuan Xin Restaurant before. It is a let down as the dumpling is too dry.

OK...I went there for tea after shopping with my mom in October and we ordered something light:

Glutinous Rice Ball Mango Ice with Sago @ RM9.00

Ahem...kinda expensive, but this is my fav, besides the Honey Dew Iced Blended sago.
The rice ball is chewy with generous amount of mango. Not bad.
The price increased over the years...and I only go there once in a long time when I am craving for it.

Kenny Rogers Rosters @ Jusco Bandar Perda

Whenever we have no idea what to have for lunch, my mom and I would go to Ichiban Ramen. However, I've been eating the same thing again and again...so, I decided to go to Kenny Rogers  Rosters as I miss the hot muffin of theirs so much.

Well, we ordered a Kenny's Chicken Meal on that day which comes together with a hot delicious muffin. (Trust me...it is a must to try the muffins there...)
