Brunch @ Paddington House of Pancake, Gurney Plaza, Penang

Please take note that this outlet is no longer available at Gurney Plaza

I went to Gurney Plaza the other day to shop for some books and stuff. Since it was my off day, I had a leisure brunch by myself at Paddington House of Pancake and also to see if they offers any good lunch promotion on a week day.

Ahh...the flowing honey over a stack of pancakes look as tempting as ever.

Taiwanese Tea Room, Xian Ding Wei ( 鲜定味 ) @ Auto City, Prai, Penang

I haven't seen my pals for a while and we decided to meet up at Auto City to grab some lunch while chatting. XD

After some consideration (fast food restaurant is a no-no), we decided to go to Xiang Ding Wei (Taiwanese Tea Room) since we haven't been there for a while. It is a Chinese Restaurant serving Taiwanese food and delicacies, but imho, they have somehow localised the menu.

Dinner @ Northam Beach Cafe,Penang

Penang is famous for its local delicacies (which is known as hawker food by most of us here).

I went to Northam Beach Cafe for dinner again. Well, ordered something new for a try rather then sticking to the normal food I used to eat. It ended up in a bitter sweet note nevertheless.

Korean Palace (Gangnam Style) @ Tanjung Tokong, Penang

This restaurant is out of business.

Kimchi is a must for Korean food and I really like the flavour it gives for the food prepared.

My friend decided to go to a Korean Restaurant at Tanjung Tokong for dinner and she suggested Korean Palace as the BBQ is delicious.

Tea Time! @ Paddington House of Pancake, Penang

Please take note that this outlet is no longer available at Gurney Plaza

I've been to PHOP once last year and am totally in love of the pancakes here. <3

This is my previous entry of this place : Paddington House of Pancake @ Gurney Plaza

Ordered pancakes again! Too bad my mom stopped me from ordering more as I wouldn't be able to have my dinner after nom-ming down all the yummy pancakes.

It seems that they've removed the set meal they have previously, as I couldn't find any cards or brochure in the menu. We ordered a pitcher of iced lemon tea and 2 different types of pancakes.

Iced lemon tea in a pitcher @ RM13.50

We thought that ordering a pitcher will be worthwhile since there were 3 of us.
However,it is more or less the same as the single glass serving of tea.
Not as worth as it sounds, unless it is for 2 person?

Hooi Wang Restaurant @ Bukit Mertajam, Penang

Heading to a local Chinese restaurant meal is a great choice because you can have an affordable hearty meal  without costing you a fortune. You can choose from a selection of home cooked dishes which suite our taste buds well.

I went to Hooi Wang Restaurant earlier this month for dinner with my family. We had a great dinner and ordered a few dishes to go with the rice.

Steamed peanuts will be served before the meal.

Sweet 16 @ Penang Times Square

After dinner with my friend at Times Square the other day , we decided to go over to Full house for some dessert and stuff. I've been dying to go there , but, to my dismay, the place was occupied for some filming or event and thus, we need to wait to get a seat.

We decided to change our plan and went to Sweet 16. Sweet 16 is located beside Face-to-Face noodle shop. What caught my attention of that shop was the huge Hello Kitty place at the window. lolz

The shop is full of flowers and it seems that they just opened the shop perhaps.
I love the cup cake shaped tissue dispenser.
I wanna get one myself. X3

Gashapon @ Life in an egg ^^

Anime figures are something that I would like to own for a long time. Some of them, the price is exuberant (I know, with RM 100++ I can have a few meals and 2-3 T-shirts and blouses), but I really like the figures because of the details and colours.

Due to money factor, I go for Gashapon , as in toys in capsule that can be found in malls mostly.

Hmm…they cost for around RM10 per capsule.  Lately, the figures and key chains are not attractive enough of my liking. I haven’t get one for ages. =.=

Anyway, these are the Gashapon figures I own which I got it at KL and JB.
Ahh…I miss the good old days!

My first Gashapon figure: Yakumo Tsukamoto (School Rumble)
One of my fav. Got it from Sungei Wang Plaza.
Got it when I went to Kuala Lumpur to visit my bestie years ago.

Meet Fresh ( 鲜芋仙)@ Gurney Plaza Penang

Please take note that this outlet is no longer available at Gurney Plaza

I've been seeing a junior of mine posted some dessert she had at Meet Fresh the other day over FB. Lil did I realise that they have an outlet in Gurney Plaza. I thought they only opened one in Paragon Gurney (OMG~ I am always roaming around Gurney Plaza! How could I miss it. XD) Well, Meet Fresh is a traditional Taiwanese dessert shop which is well known. According to what I read on line, they ensure that the freshest natural ingredients are used and they are hand made dessert. (hmm...impressive)

The shop is located near Kim Gary Hong Kong Restaurant. You can find it easily by using the escalator facing the seafront entrance. It is on the 3rd floor.

At last, a golden opportunity for me to check out this place after a shopping trip with my mom.

Taro Ball Dessert with Taro + Red Bean + Pearl  @ RM 6.50
I ordered the cold dessert with shaved ice in syrup. XD
The taro rice balls are chewy. Not bad.
I like the pure authentic taste of this dessert.
No additional condensed milk or coconut milk.
Just the ingredient and the ice.

Face To Face Noodles House (面对面)@ Penang Times Square, Penang

I am not a fan of pan mee. (板面 as in homemade noodles in Mandarin).
No matter how people tell me how delicious it was…I refused to eat or order it as I have tasted soup pan mee which was not appealing when I was in high school. The anchovies did not go well with the broth which was murky due to the flour of the noodles.

But, today, my bestie  managed to drag me along and changed my impression on homemade noodles.  She told me that KL pan mee is not the same as what I tasted and she guaranteed that I will fall in love…desperately in love with this noodles.

She made it and I would like to say that the noodles served in Face to Face Noodle House is simply awesome.

There are 4 types of noodles to choose from: Thick, Thin, Pinch and Mee Sua. (check out the menu in the link given towards the end of the post). Only certain noodles are served for certain selection of noodles dish. They will state it clearly in the menu as well... XD

China House @ Penang

I need to give my bestie a big big hug as we managed to locate this place, China House after searching around the Heritage Zone of George Town.

Well, we’ve been planning to visit KopiCine of Straits Collection for some time now and it seems that the place had moved to a new location. Since there are tons of one way street around the town, we need to make a few turns till we came to its back door, which is the entrance of The Canteen.

Yup…the back door. I spotted the signs boards while my friend drove by.It doesn’t resemble a fancy or interesting structure of a café or restaurant.  However, it is indeed the place we were trying to find.

What makes this place unique is that it was a 3 restored shop houses, linked by an open courtyard which stretched from Lebuh Victoria (Victoria Street) to Lebuh Pantai (Beach Street). Back is The Canteen...the front is China House. Unique!

The facade of the back of China House.
It is located on Lebuh Victoria if not mistaken.

Dragon I @ Queensbay Mall, Penang

Had the bestest best day with my bestie last month while we hang out for the whole day to celebrate my birthday. Apart from food, we went to Queensbay Mall  for shopping then had a light dinner at Dragon I (it was light…as we shared the food XD) My bestie is a big fan of terracotta warrior of the ancient Xi’an since high school and I’ve been waiting for the chance to bring her there.  ^^

One of the ancient warrior nearest to us. XD
Too bad my friend can't shrink it and brought it home.

Macaroni Cheese Baked @ Home

Bought a packet of Parmesan cheese the other day, last year to be exact and I noticed that the expiry date is around the corner.

Oh well...this shows that I need to do something with it before wasting the whole packet of cheese.

I decided to try out macaroni cheese baked by referring to a cook book and thank goodness it is a success and edible.

My macaroni cheese baked!
I'm impressed by the colour of the cheese.
It looks good.

Roti Canai @ Pulau Tikus

It was an amazing day on 17.02.12 as my bestie had a wonderful pre bday celebration with me. (Arigatou ne!)

We started the day by going out for a simple Malaysian breakfast -- Roti Canai!
One of my fav local delicacies of all time...too bad they don't have Roti Pisang (Banana flat bread...i mean)

We went to a lil shop located at the same row of Pulau Tikus' Police Station.

To be exact, the shop is located next to a newspaper stall  (you can see magazines, newspaper and bread out side the shop) and opposite Swee Kong Coffee Shop which is famous for its Wan Tan noodles, Hokkien noodles and apom (a type of Indian pancake) for breakfast.

The facade of the shop ( I didn't notice the name)
You can see the lane beside the shop...followed by a small florist.
See the hearts hanging outside the flower shop?

It is actually beside the busy Pulau Tikus road.

Boston 又一城 @ Autocity, Penang

Chinese New Year is a great time for gathering of friends and family.

This year, we had a small gathering of friends as most of us were busy and we went to Autocity's Boston since we could not think of a great place to have a chat and a meal. =.=

Well, Boston Restaurant had their own Chinese New Year menu which more or less are the same as the usual one. We ordered some drinks and food...which is ok. Am not disappointed this time...lolz. The best thing is I like the oriental decor of Autocity's Boston Restaurant. An old oriental ambiance which is unique yet beautiful.

One of the Chinese New Year Menu.
See the unique table design using Mah Jong tiles?
Interesting!

Set Lunch at Xuan Xin Restaurant @ Gurney Plaza

I've been in and out from Xuan Xin Restaurant for a few times whenever I am in Gurney Plaza for a shopping spree. I should have blog about this for a long time.=.=

Well, Xuan Xin Restaurant serves affordable set meals which my mom likes, besides dim sum, noodles and other Chinese food. There are a large variety of dishes to choose from and the taste is not bad. The price is decent for the food available in a busy shopping mall.

We went there again for lunch during the Chinese New Year week and ordered the four person's set meal which costs RM 59.80. Besides rice, you can opt for porridge. You will also be served a bowl of the 'Soup of the Day' for each person. I'm not a fan of the soup as it is salty and thin ( you can rarely find any vegetables or meat inside, unless you are lucky perhaps).

For the 4 person's set menu, you can choose a stir-fried vegetables, plus 3 additional dishes.

The setting of the table.
We ordered a pot of chrysanthemum tea @ RM7.20 as well.
The hot water can be refilled from time to time.

Swensen's @ Gurney Plaza, Penang

This outlet is no longer available at Gurney Plaza.

I have been thinking of having a meal at Swensen's for a while since I haven't really tried the food there. I only went to Swensens twice and that was like two, three years ago. Had ice-cream during my last visit with my friends though.

Anyway, during my shopping trip with my family, we actually get some vouchers from Gurney Plaza due to their Chinese New Year promotion (or something like that) at the info counter. So, we decided to have our dinner there and gave the food a try. XD

The Year of the Dragon 2012

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

It is a splendid celebration indeed with the days off from work, the marvellous food, the new clothes...plus receiving red packets. lolz (it is a plus for me as I am still 'happily' single)

Anyway, my celebration this year was the same as every year. Getting together with family and relatives is a must for us. Nevertheless, I had a good time so far.

Hopefully, I'll have a great start as well. ^^

Had steamboat for reunion dinner.
Prawns, tofu, won ton and lots of lots of assorted fish balls.

Tasty Inn @ Megamall Pinang, Perai

To have an affordable, filling and tasty meal when you are going for a shopping spree at Megamall Pinang (a.k.a Pacific by us locals), I would suggest that you should try out the local delights offered at Tasty Inn which is located on the 2nd floor of the mall.

I've been there for several time and the food are not bad. My fav would be the Tom Yam noodles, Salted Fish Fried Vermicelli (bee hoon) and fried Tom Yam noodles. They are delicious. XD

I went there during my shopping trip today. Brought along my bestie to try out the food.
